Amazon has quietly upgraded the Fire HD 10 tablet to include 4GB of RAM in 2023, increasing its performance potential. The change is not officially confirmed but is evident in recent listings, affecting buyers’ options.
Amazon has upgraded the RAM configuration of its Fire HD 10 tablet for 2023, increasing it from 3GB to 4GB. This hardware update, confirmed through recent product listings, could enhance the device’s performance, especially for multitasking and app usage. The change comes with a slight price increase, and Amazon has not officially announced the update.
The Fire HD 10 launched in 2022 with multiple storage options, each originally equipped with 3GB of RAM. In 2023, the 32GB model now ships with 4GB of RAM, while the 64GB version remains at 3GB. The price for the 32GB version has increased from $139.99 to $154.99, reflecting the hardware change. Both models retain the same display, processor, battery life, and expandable storage options.
Amazon has not issued an official statement explaining the RAM upgrade, but industry sources suggest it may be due to supply chain issues affecting memory chip availability. The update appears to be limited to the 32GB model, which is now more capable for multitasking and general performance.
Impact of RAM Increase on Fire HD 10 Users
The increase to 4GB of RAM could improve the overall user experience, especially for multitasking and running more demanding apps. It also suggests Amazon is adjusting its hardware to better compete in the budget tablet market amid ongoing supply chain disruptions affecting component sourcing. For consumers, this means a potentially more capable device at a slightly higher price, though the lack of an official announcement leaves some details uncertain.

2023 Hardware updates amid supply chain challenges
The Fire HD 10 was last updated in 2022, with Amazon offering it in multiple storage configurations. The recent RAM upgrade in 2023 follows a broader trend of hardware adjustments across the tech industry, driven by supply chain constraints, particularly for memory chips. Reports indicate that other manufacturers, like Valve with its Steam Machine, are also experiencing similar sourcing issues, which may explain Amazon’s hardware tweak.
Amazon continues to sell the original 3GB/32GB model at the previous price, but stock may be limited. The company has not publicly explained the reasons behind the RAM increase, leaving some speculation about supply chain impacts and hardware optimization.
